Climate

The name means "river of mosquitoes". The reality is a green, busy village at the Lake Manyara gate, home to more than a hundred tribes and famous for its banana groves and market.

Mto wa Mbu is one of the most ethnically diverse villages in Tanzania, and the best way to see it is by bicycle. A local guide takes you along irrigation channels, through rice and banana fields, to a woodcarver, a Maasai boma and a market.

It sits beside the gate to Lake Manyara National Park and is a natural half-day alongside a park visit. Because the tours are run by the community, your money goes to village families directly.
