Overview

The Udzungwa Mountains are part of the Eastern Arc, an ancient chain of forests that is a global biodiversity hotspot. Many of the animals and plants here are found nowhere else.

Trails start at the park gate, and you walk with a ranger and a guide. It is a rewarding, humid hike with plenty of wildlife. See the Udzungwa Mountains.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 Dar es Salaam to Udzungwa Udzungwa Mountains

A scenic drive of about five to six hours through Mikumi to the park gate at Mang'ula, where you settle in and enjoy a short orientation walk.

Day 2 Sanje Falls hike Udzungwa Mountains

A guided hike of three to four hours up a forest trail to the Sanje waterfalls, with pools to cool off in and views over the Kilombero Valley.

Day 3 Forest walk and primate tracking Udzungwa Mountains

A morning walk to look for red colobus, Sanje mangabey and other primates, and an afternoon at leisure or a village visit.

Day 4 Return to Dar es Salaam Udzungwa Mountains

A leisurely morning and the drive back to Dar es Salaam, arriving in the evening.
