A 20-minute boat trip from the Stone Town seafront.
The Aldabra giant tortoises of Changuu, some more than a century old.
Snorkelling on a small reef, with a beach stop and refreshments.
Overview
Prison Island was built in the 1800s and never used as a prison, but it has become one of the best-loved short trips from Stone Town. The tortoises are gentle and used to visitors, and the shallows around the island are clear enough for a first snorkel.
Combine it with a Stone Town walk or a sunset cruise for a full Zanzibar day. See Prison Island for more.
