What to pack for a Tanzania safari

TeenVibe Safaris 2 September 2026 1 min read

A practical packing list: what to wear on game drives, what to bring for the beach and what to leave at home.

Packing light and packing smart makes a safari far more comfortable.

Clothing

  • Neutral colours such as khaki, olive and tan, since bright colours and very dark blue or black can attract insects
  • Lightweight long sleeves and trousers for sun and bugs
  • A warm fleece and windproof layer, because early morning drives can be cold
  • A wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses
  • Comfortable closed shoes and sandals for camp

Gear

  • Binoculars, which transform game drives
  • A camera with spare batteries and memory
  • A power bank and a plug adapter
  • A reusable water bottle
  • A small daypack

Health and documents

  • Passport valid for the length required by Tanzanian entry rules, and any visa you need. Check current requirements before you travel
  • Travel insurance that covers medical care and evacuation
  • Any personal medication, plus sunscreen and insect repellent
  • Ask your doctor about recommended vaccinations and malaria prevention well before departure

Luggage

Soft-sided bags are best, since small aircraft and safari vehicles have limited space. We will confirm weight limits for any flights on your itinerary.
