Climate
A fishing village on Zanzibar's south coast where resident bottlenose and humpback dolphins live in Menai Bay, and where a 12th-century mosque still stands.
Boats leave the beach at Kizimkazi at first light to find the dolphins in Menai Bay. Encounters are never guaranteed and we ask boat crews to keep their distance, but sightings are frequent, and the trip often finishes with a swim or snorkel on a quiet reef.
Back on land, the village has one of the oldest mosques in East Africa, with a Kufic inscription dated to the 12th century. It is a short, quiet stop and a good reminder of how long the Swahili coast has been part of the Indian Ocean world.

We follow the marine reserve rules and ask crews to avoid chasing or crowding the dolphins. Watching from the boat and letting them approach is the responsible choice.
